We have been successfully collaborating with the Dundee Red Squirrel Group to establish a corridor of red squirrel friendly trees to link the reds in and around Caird Park to the green space further south along the Dighty. We have monitored the presence of greys in the Trottick and Douglas areas over several months using appropriate transects checked by volunteers.
Since we have found very little evidence of grey squirrels we have planted several ‘red squirrel friendly’ corridors leading up to Caird Park. This has involved planting species such as Scots Pine, Larch, Hazel etc. which the reds prefer. We will continue to manage and monitor for squirrels in this area and feedback to the Dundee Red Squirrel group.
